A remarkable shelf fungus

I noticed it along the front path earlier in the week, and thought, 'oh, stimulated by the recent rain' and went on into the house. But it's kept getting bigger and bigger, and is impressively large for a shelf-fungus coming up from mulch. It's not unusual to see a large shelf fungus on the trunk of a declining tree, but not on the ground. I saw a similarly large one at the Garden today, at the base of a tree (hopefully coming up from the hardwood mulch and not from the tree).

When we last wrote about Joe’s House – a coastal home retreat, we knew it was one of a group of small buildings commissioned by the same client – all located on an island off the south west coast of British Columbia, Canada. Now we managed to have a glimpse of the rest of these gorgeous modern cabins . Take a look… Resembling a traditional family summer camp, this project consists of four small connected guest cabins – all with the same footprint, yet with different configurations and different locations, surrounded by a beautiful forest and amazing views. Each cabin is meticulously detailed with large horizontal glass openings; sliding doors open to exterior wooden decks, ...

Classical Contemporary Interior Design

Classical Contemporary Interior Design Throughout the house, the décor reflects what Brown and Davis call “classical contemporary,” a luxurious but streamlined look that has become their signature. “One of our trademarks is the juxtaposition of old and new, and bringing colors together in unexpected ways,” Davis says. Contemporary Kitchen Interior The contemporary was revamped by Poggenpohl. The more formal rooms at the front of the house exemplify this mix of traditional and modern elements. In the living room, Brown and Davis replaced the fireplace mantel with a carved limestone surround and installed new architectural moldings to create a classical backdrop to stylized, Deco-inspired furnishings. Instead of pairing sofas around the fireplace, they arranged seating areas at either end of the room and connected them with a floral-patterned carpet of their own design.
