Leaving for work this morning, the light was perfect -- soft and mellow. The young coral honeysuckle next to the gate is thriving, and in full flower. And through the gate (or really over the fence), the side garden looked lovely, too, cloaked in spring greens, with dogwood white.

Everything was damp in the garden this morning, and there hadn't been any sign of rain when we went to bed. Woo-hoo! There was 4/10 of an inch in the rain gauge, and the main vegetable garden looked remarkably lush. The beans are flowering again, finally, after a bit of a heat break last week, too.

Coming back from a long walk on a summer morning often finds the view from the gate slightly misty with early humidity, with the colors clarified by the soft light. It's one of the best times of the day in a southeastern summer. Mocha posed by the front meadow while I cooled off and snapped some pictures of the garage hanging baskets. Amazingly, the nasturtiums are still flourishing in these baskets, in spite of the 90+ heat and afternoon sun. I'm trying to use only drought-tolerant plants in large baskets to minimize watering!
